Blackbar ships sit wrecked on our shoals, and more lie ruined in our harbor. The shore is slick with blood. Dorian Blackbar’s head sits in a box of salt, and his men await their ransom. Those who sought to destroy us have paid for their folly, and we are victorious. But at what cost? There is little love for House Tuttle in The Reach, and the Blackbars are not without friends.
We cannot count on the loyalty of our own people. The rebels used the Blackbar attack to invade the castle, slaughtering many smallfolk loyal to our house. Sir Denis, whose face I fear I shall never stop seeing in my nightmares, stole into the castle in an attempt to free my uncle. He nearly killed Elyana, and grievously wounded Dylan before he was brought down. If it hadn’t been for Meridora, we may have lost both our Dornish companions. Seeing him back in the castle brought back such terror, such feelings of hopelessness.
I wanted to defend my home. I wanted to defend our poor servants from such senseless slaughter. I wanted to hurt Sir Denis myself. But I ran. I will never forgive myself for that. I need to be stronger if House Tuttle is to survive.
